Activity Details
Show a selection of trash, recycling items, trash bin, and recycling bin. Ask children, “Where should I put this: in the black bin or the blue bin?”
Ask children to help you put the trash and recyclables where they belong. Pass out one item to each child and ask them to sort it into the correct bin.
Ask them to explain why they chose to put it there (Elicit: because it is plastic, paper, or metal). If possible, collect real recyclables (newspapers, cans, plastic water bottles) to demonstrate this activity. Otherwise, there are pictures that can be used to demonstrate recycling.
